Guest lecture -1 of Hospitality, Phase -10, B3

To inspire the trainees on their domain Don Bosco Tech Society (Karunapuram) held a guest lecture for the Food & Beverage Service Steward trainees on February 19, 2020. Mr. Katakam Pranay (Senior Captain, Kakatiya Grand, Hanamkonda) was invited to share his insights with the trainees on his expertise.

 The session kicked started at 11:30 am. Mr. Vijay Kumar (Trainer, Hospitality) introduced the guest to the trainees. The resource person introduced himself said, “I am the alumni of this alma mater. Today I am happy to interact with you all.”

As the session started, the facilitator put up some questions to the trainees, in a bid to understand their learning. Thereafter, he explained the various departments of a hotel that include, Laundry, Front Office, Apartments, Higher authorities, Accommodation Operation for Housekeeping, F & B Service, and F & B Production Departments. 

“The front desk department is responsible to welcome the guests and inform them regarding the hotel. The Front Desk Officer should always respond to the guests attentively. The front office department is the first department contacting the guests face to face directly,” said Mr. Pranay. So, he added, “Always he/she should be carrying a smile on the face and be polite while receiving.”

He also said “Food & Beverage department service Steward should know the menu of the Hotel Production department every day,” said Mr. Pranay. He also said, “ The menu contains usually in India. Indian cuisine food items, Multi Cuisine food Items in Multi-cuisine restaurants and Chinese special items.”

Session continued while the resource person said, “Grooming is the utmost important factor in the Hotel Industry. The person who wants to work in this industry should strictly adhere to grooming rules, which include; hair should be cut closely, the uniform should be spotless and well ironed, nails should be well manicured and hands clean, shoes should always be polished and conservative style and a close shave is necessary to start the duty every day.” He also added, “Employee has to avoid bad breath and does not bend and walk.”

Finally, he said, "Interest and Enthusiasm are the core competencies that will bring success in our life.” He thus explained about his experience and the employment opportunities available in Hotel Industry. Motivated left no stone unturned to the trainees motivate to cling on to work in this fast-growing industry.
