Guest Lecture on Soft Skill

A motivating experience along with a great deal of knowledge was imparted to the students of Don Bosco Tech Society, Berhampore in the soft skill session held on October 14, 2019. A 25-young-trainees attended the interactive session. Ms. Sulata Das (Trainer, Soft Skills) pioneered this session and described the Growth of hospitality in the era of globalization. She also talked about the selection and recruitment policies of her tied up properties.

Students were told about the need for hospitality in the industry sector and as a result the hospitality management courses in India. Students were also informed about the demand for well trained and high skills of students in that sector. Students have realized the importance and the competency to have good communication as its necessary for the employees to communicate effectively with the guests in crucial circumstances like dealing with complaints, co-coordinating between departments, attending to guests at the front desk and helping in documentation like menus, bills, reports, and other hotel procedures.

Some useful tips were also given, for example, the best way to the successful communicator is to observe your guest’s communication style and to respond accordingly. For instance, when you are dealing with a guest, you may notice that some guests make small conversations and others may be interested in the issue to be dealt with, quickly and spontaneously. So observe your guests and act accordingly as it is important to think about how you address your guest or deal with complaints.

Ms. Sulata assertively said that Don Bosco Tech, Berhampore provides "The Hospitality Management" program that gladly provides the platform to the students to participate in various professional and extracurricular activities and provides many opportunities for work experience and job placement in the surrounding area. She conveyed that those who graduate in this option will find excellent employment opportunities in their profession and obtaining experience in the industry helps to create a competitive advantage and aids in more rapid advancement. She also conveyed that by pursuing in Hotel industry career and gathering vast experience, one can find work as a restaurant manager, hotel manager, catering director, food and beverage director, food service manager in a college, university, or corporate setting, manager in a motel, bed and breakfast facility, healthcare hospitality food service director, school food service director, club manager, meeting planner, the manager in senior nutrition programs, stadiums or amusement parks, or as a food and beverage controller. Her lecture ended with a vote of thanks.
