Sheetal Devi, 20 years old girl, belongs from a Ward No-48, Gorkha Nagar of Jammu district. Her father, Lt. Kailash Kumar expired after long term illness.  Her mother earning is the only source of the income which is only Rs. 5000/- per month. They are six members in their family and all were dependent on their Mother’s income which was not enough even for the basic necessities. With the financial constraints and no person to look after the home forced her to dropout from school. For very long she had thought to help her mother but had no idea how to do so and where to start. 

 

During a mobilization campaign by Don Bosco Tech near her home, she came to know about the Himayat   project skill training program that is designed to uplift economically weak and school drop-outs youth with sustainable livelihood. When Sheetal came to the centre, she was already prepare for the Interest Inventory Test and counselling after which she happily agreed to enroll in Hospitality Domain on suggestion by the trainer after careful assessment.

 

Sheetal finally joined the training on June 19, 2013. On her first day of induction, she felt hopeful for her future and believed strongly that Don Bosco Tech would help her to build it. During the training she learned about time management, money management, goal setting, etc from life skills activities, computer knowledge and English langauge apart from the domain centric skills and knowledge. 

 

In three months, she gained a lot of confidence and finally at the placement interview she secured a job in Pizza Hut at Bahu Plaza, Jammu as a Customer Service Executive with a monthly remuneration of Rs. 5000/- per month. She is already satisfied with what she has learnt but in addition she wants to know more about cooking skills / Food Production, etc. In future, she wants to attain great heights and wants to continue her further studies through corresponding. She says, “Don Bosco Tech has changed my life by showing me a way towards my future. I will always be grateful to Don Bosco Tech – Himayat and my trainers for guiding me and showing me the way to success. 

Sheetal parents were thankful to Don Bosco Tech for bringing positive change through proper guidance and skill training in Sheetal and helping to improve the financial condition of the family as well. They add that with her achievemnet and hard work, many youth in her locaity were inspired and motivated to enroll in Don Bosco Tech
