Rudesh Masane who comes from Shelu, a quiet village situated in the Raigad District of Maharashtra narrates his story in his calm voice saying I belong to the extremely poor family and ours is a family of 6 which includes – my father, mother, three sisters and me. My father earns less than Rs 1500 in a month that get utilised for the two light meals taken during the day. My father, Sripad Masane works as labourer in a ball point pen manufacturing company, he also works on the farming land which is owned by some other person. The half of the earning from farm land goes to the land owner at the end of the season. My mother manages the house and also tries to make some money by embellishing stones in the ladies hair-clips.  Everyone in the family contributes in some or the other way but still the labour exploitation by the small industries compels them to live in extreme poverty. Life became an endless toil for the family for obtaining even the most basic necessities of life.

One day, as he was looking for some employment avenue, Rudesh came across the mobilization drive at Shelu being organised by the DB Tech trainers working at the BASE centre located at Karjat. Impatient to know more about what is happening, he enquired from Mr. Sandeep Gayakwad (Electrical Trainer, BASE-Karjat) and learned about the three months skill development program being offered by DB Tech in partnership with MoRD. He went up tentatively to Mr. Sandeep and found out the criteria and benefits of the skill development program and asked if he too could join the program.

Spurred by hope and optimism, very next day Rudesh reached the centre with all the credentials required for enrolling into the course. After the interest inventory test, the trainers asked him to enrol in the Electrical course. He began his course in earnest, attended classes regularly and within few weeks got himself completely changed. Apart from technical training and life skills, he also learnt several useful skills such as Budgeting, Capacity Building, Personality Development; Group Living, Sharing Responsibilities, etc.

At the end of the three-month course, his trainers arranged a job interview for him with a Mumbai based company called Samrat Electricals. He got selected there for the position of Electrician at a starting salary of Rs 4000 per month. Speaking appreciatively about Rudesh's technical competence and commitment towards the job, the supervisor, Mr. Sunil said, “The skills provided by DB Tech are appropriate for the entry level positions. Rudesh's dedication towards his job is commendable. Although he is just a few months old with us, he has shown himself to be worthy of assembling the circuits. If he will continue to work with zeal like this, he has a very bright future ahead”.

It is happy to note that Rudesh has recently got an opportunity in Kohli Industries, which is again a Electrical Company; it is located in Ambarnath, which is hardly 5 Kilometre away from his place. He is now getting the salary of Rs 5000 along with other benefits. Expressing his joy at this Rudesh said, “Most of my friends who are Graduate are sitting idle due to lack of domain specific skills, I advise them all to go for this training programme without any restraint”.
